If you're thinking about creating or redesigning your website with Wix, you've probably come across two main options: Wix Editor (the classic editor) and Wix Studio (the evolution of Editor X). But which one is the best option for you?
This question is common with my clients, since when migrating from platforms such as Wordpress (this happens more and more often) or starting a new project, the pros and cons of both options are analyzed.

Wix offers two main tools tailored to different users: the Wix Editor and Wix Studio .
The Wix Editor is designed for beginners, small businesses, or anyone looking to create a website quickly and easily, with no technical experience required.
With its intuitive drag-and-drop interface, pre-designed templates, and basic customization options, it's ideal for simple projects like blogs or small shops.
On the other hand, Wix Studio is designed for professionals, designers, and agencies that require more control and flexibility. It offers advanced tools like pixel editing, AI-powered responsive design, custom code, and multi-project management, perfect for complex sites or client work.
In this post, I will tell you what the differences are between the two and help you choose which path to take and the future of both editors in Wix.
By the end, you'll be clear about which option is best for your project and what to expect from Wix in the years to come.
In this article, I will explain the key differences between both options.
🌟 Wix Editor: Simplicity and Ease of Use
The Wix Editor is the classic version of the platform and is ideal for entrepreneurs, small businesses and anyone who wants to create a website quickly and without coding knowledge. It is the default editor that the platform shows you:

Main features:
✅ Intuitive visual editor with drag and drop system . You can create your own design without using a template.
✅ Easy to customize predefined templates. (Note that once you have chosen a template you cannot exchange it for another one, but you can modify it until you have a completely new design)
✅ Responsive for desktop (PC) or mobile. Responsiveness is automatic, but less flexible.
✅ Integrated SEO features and automations.
✅ No design or code knowledge required.
✅ But you can customize it with code (Velo). I have developed some applications on some sites with code (Velo: it is similar to Javascript)
Ideal for : Small businesses, SMEs, personal blogs and entrepreneurs looking for a functional site without complications.
🚀 Wix Studio: Power and Flexibility
Wix Studio is the advanced version of Wix, which replaced Editor X and is intended for web designers, agencies, developers and businesses looking for complete control over the look and feel of their site.

Main features:
✅ Advanced responsive design with full control over breakpoints. (Desktop, Tablet and Mobile).
✅ Allows you to add custom CSS and make advanced design modifications. Has greater integration capabilities with Velo by Wix code for automation and custom development. Offers more robust development capabilities, such as a VS Code-like code editor, support for JavaScript and custom CSS code, and access to APIs to create custom solutions. This makes it competitive with platforms like Webflow.
✅ Support for animations, advanced interactions and visual effects.
✅ Ideal for projects that require full customization and optimized user experiences.
✅ Includes a centralized workspace where professionals can manage multiple sites, teams, and reusable resources (such as templates or apps). It allows for real-time collaboration, role and permission assignment, and personalized delivery to clients.
Ideal for : Web designers, digital agencies and businesses that require an advanced and highly customizable website.
Which one to choose for your project? WIX Editor vs WIX Studio
When to choose Wix Editor :
Simple projects (Professional Services, small shops, blogs, basic portfolios).
Little time or technical experience.
Budget-friendly (developing a site in the WIX Editor is cheaper than in WIX Studio and monthly and annual plans are also cheaper in the WIX Editor than in WIX Studio ).
When to choose Wix Studio :
Complex or custom sites (advanced e-commerce, corporate sites).
You need to collaborate with a team.
You want advanced design and development tools.
You can see it better in this table:

Can I convert or migrate a site made in the classic Wix editor to Wix Studio?
No, it is currently not possible to directly migrate a site from the Wix Editor to Wix Studio .
Wix does not offer an automatic tool or official process for transferring a site created in the classic Wix Editor to the Wix Studio platform. This is because both tools, although owned by Wix, operate on different architectures and systems, designed for different purposes.
Why can't I migrate?
Technical differences : The Wix Editor uses a simpler, pre-built structure, while Wix Studio takes a more flexible approach with advanced options like custom breakpoints, responsive AI, and custom code.
These differences make the sites incompatible with each other.
Design Approach : Wix Editor sites are optimized for their basic drag-and-drop editor, while Wix Studio allows for more granular control that can't be replicated automatically.
Wix Policy : Unlike the transition from Editor X to Wix Studio (where there was a migration as Studio replaced Editor X), Wix has maintained the Wix Editor as a separate, active platform, with no announced plans to merge or replace it.
What to do if you want to use Wix Studio and your site is designed in the Wix Editor?
If you have a site in the Wix Editor and want to move it to Wix Studio, your options are:
Manually rebuilding your site : You would have to rebuild your site from scratch in Wix Studio, copying the content (text, images, etc.) and redesigning the structure. Although it will take time, it will allow you to take advantage of Studio's advanced capabilities and optimize the design. I only recommend this if you have technical knowledge of design and use of Wix Studio.
Export basic content : You can manually download elements such as text (copy and paste), images or files from the Wix Editor and then upload them to Wix Studio. However, the layout and functionalities are not transferred.
Keep Both : One of the features I love about WIX is that you can leave your current site in the Wix Editor and create a new one in Wix Studio for a different project, since they are both accessible from the same Wix account.
The Future of Wix: Will Wix Continue to Boost Wix Studio at the Disadvantage of the Classic Editor?
Wix Studio was launched in 2023 as a platform aimed at web design professionals, agencies, and freelancers, with advanced tools that go beyond the capabilities of the classic Wix Editor.
Recent financial reports and official announcements indicate that Wix is betting big on Wix Studio . In January 2025, the company completed the transition from Editor X to Wix Studio, ensuring that all migrated sites continue to run smoothly.
In addition, in its latest financial reports, Wix highlighted that its business growth is largely due to the adoption of advanced products such as Wix Studio and artificial intelligence tools.
However, this doesn't mean that the Wix Classic Editor is going away.
Factors that support the continuity of the Wix Editor
Existing User Base : The Wix Editor has millions of users worldwide, many of whom don’t need or want the complexities of Wix Studio. Discontinuing it or reducing support for it could result in a significant loss of customers.
Simplicity as a core value : The Wix Editor is at the core of Wix's identity as a platform "for everyone." Keeping it up to date and functional is key to continuing to attract new users without technical experience.
No direct migration : So far, Wix has not offered a tool to migrate sites from the Wix Editor to Wix Studio (unlike Editor X). This suggests that there are no immediate plans to force Wix Editor users to switch, and that both editors will continue to co-exist.
Wix continues to offer this option for users looking for simplicity, but it’s clear that the platform is putting more resources into developing Wix Studio, suggesting that this will be its primary focus going forward.
🎯 Conclusion: Which One Should You Choose?
The decision between Wix Editor and Wix Studio will depend on your needs and knowledge:
➡️ If you are looking for ease of use and speed , Wix Editor is the best option.
➡️ If you need advanced customization and professional design , Wix Studio is the best alternative.
➡️ If you are a designer, agency or web developer , Wix Studio is clearly the best option in the long run.
Wix is constantly evolving, and with a focus on advanced tools and automation, Wix Studio looks to be the future of the platform.
If you're looking to build a website with more room for growth, now may be the perfect time to start exploring Wix Studio.
