Over the years working with clients and their websites at my agency Webler Digital , we have detected that most of the websites published are not optimized.
Clients pay for Ads on Google and Meta, but those Ads do not have the desired result because they are not optimized and do not leverage the investment in $$.
A poorly optimized or SEO-less site is like having a car without an engine. It DOESN'T work.
Stop wasting money on Google and Meta ads that drain your budget and get your Website or Ecommerce ready by doing the SEO of your WIX Site.
Practical Guide to SEO WIX
A website is not only what the human eye sees, but also what it communicates to search engines.
Optimizing your site to rank it in search engines like Google or Bing (SEO) is key to ensuring your website or e-commerce site is visible and attracting potential customers.
In this post, I share practical strategies to position your website or e-commerce and attract more organic traffic. These are the tips we use at my agency Webler Digital to position our clients' sites and our own.
The 6 Keys to WIX SEO
1. SEO tools available on the Wix platform (free)
2. Choose the Right Keywords for YOUR Business
3. Optimize the Structure of Your Website
4. User Experience (UX)
5. Create Quality and Relevant Content
6. Promote Your Site and Build Links
Although SEO on Wix was not popular in the past, the platform has evolved and is on par with platforms like Wordpress, offering powerful tools to optimize your site and achieve results. These are:
1. SEO tools available on the Wix platform (free)
Wix and Wix Studio both come with a suite of built-in SEO tools.
Unlike other platforms, on WIX you don't have to pay anything!
Free WIX SEO Tools:
Wix SEO Wiz: A step-by-step guide to help you optimize your site.
Meta Tag Editor: Allows you to customize titles, descriptions, and tags for each page.
Automatic Sitemap: Wix automatically generates a sitemap.xml for Google to crawl your site.
Mobile Optimization: Wix ensures your site is responsive, a key factor for SEO.
In your WIX website dashboard, you can find your site's SEO info:
Dashboard>Site and mobile app>SEO

As you can see in the image above, the SEO on this site (which we are building at Webler Digital ) is “empty” and is not connected to Google Search Console .
Once we finish the SEO configurations, the dashboard looks like this:

Important: The result will depend on your keywords and defined objectives.
This brings us to the second point, which is the importance of keywords:
2. Choose the Right Keywords for YOUR Business
Defining and choosing keywords for your site is of utmost importance. It is a game changer. In WIX, you have to start from the definition of 5 keywords, which are actually 5 key phrases that are aligned with your business’s commercial objectives.
For example, if we were doing SEO for a coffee shop, whose location is in Ñuñoa (Commune-neighborhood of the city of Santiago, in Chile), we evaluate these phrases and from there we choose 5 with the client:
Cafeteria and tea room in Ñuñoa with parking
Best specialty coffee in Ñuñoa
Breakfast and brunch in Ñuñoa with specialty coffee
Takeaway coffee and ham and avocado sandwiches in Ñuñoa
Coffee shop in Ñuñoa with artisanal cakes and coffee
Gourmet sandwiches and specialty coffee in Ñuñoa
Best cakes and breakfasts in a cafeteria in Ñuñoa
The idea is to focus on the type of business, what the potential client is looking for and in this case the location of the business.
There are several ways to search for these key phrases: directly on Google (it suggests options based on the first words, Ubersuggest, Semrush, Ahrefs, and lately AI: Chat Gpt, Gemini, Deepseek or Grok).
Initially we did not use Google Keyword Planner (only when we moved on to the Growth Marketing stage and Google Ads notifications)
These keywords also have to be in the Titles and Meta descriptions of your site (the WIX SEO WIZ will ask you for them)
In addition to keywords, you need to consider the following:
3. Optimize the Structure of Your Website
Friendly URLs: Make sure URLs are short, descriptive, clear, and contain keywords.
Meta titles and meta descriptions: Write attractive titles and descriptions that include relevant keywords.
Use hierarchical structure in your texts (H1, H2, H3) to improve readability.
Texts, images, colors and color contrasts must be under the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
Navigation Menu: Organize your site in a logical and hierarchical manner so that users and search engines can easily understand it.
Internal Links: Use internal links to connect related pages and improve user experience. (Essential in Blogging)
Images used on your site : Optimize image names and use alt text.
Indexing of each page: Turn on indexing in your SEO settings so that Google can crawl your site.
4. User Experience (UX)
Google values ease of navigation above all else, and also considers the loading speed of your site. That is why your site must have:
Optimized images: Although WIX automatically compresses images, you should check if they can be further optimized. Use compressed formats (WebP) to improve loading speed.
Responsive Design: Wix Studio allows for responsive designs for mobile and tablet devices. If your site is on the original WiX Editor, you only have the option to optimize it for mobile.
Loading time: Especially on the home page, avoid heavy videos, apps or unnecessary effects that slow down the site. You should be aiming for less than 3 seconds of loading speed.
5. Create Quality and Relevant Content
Content is king in SEO. Make sure your site offers value to your visitors.
It can be through the content in the texts of the pages that make up your site and also, if you have a Blog or an area where you periodically develop content (mix of text, images and video) relevant to your clients (current and potential):
Write detailed descriptions of products or services.
Place images with uniform backgrounds that highlight the product or service, and in the case of e-commerce, place 3 to 5 photos of the product from different angles that serve as a reference to the size and also, especially in fashion, the context of the photo is super relevant.
Use optimized images and videos (with descriptive file names and ALT tags).
Publish blog articles that answer your audience's questions and generate links to relevant and authoritative pages (government, universities, press, etc.).
Use optimized images and videos (with descriptive file names and ALT tags) aligned with WCAG.
Once you finish making the entire WIX SEO WIX list, you have to connect your site to GOOGLE SEARCH CONSOLE so that Google knows that you exist.
Last but not least, and no less important than the list above, are your site's Marketing Integrations and Social Media Connections .
6. Promote Your Site and Build Links
SEO is not limited to your website; you also need to work on your online presence:
Share your content on social media and encourage interaction.
Collaborate with influencers or blogs in your niche to get backlinks.
Register your site with Google My Business and connect it to WIX.
Incorporates the tags of:
TikTok pixel (if you are on that social network)
Develop strategies with Email Marketing (WIX offers you the tool already integrated into the platform, which simplifies the process enormously).
Conclusion:
Ranking a website or ecommerce site on Wix or Wix Studio is entirely possible if you follow SEO best practices.
From optimizing your content and structure to taking advantage of Wix's built-in tools, every step counts to improve your search engine visibility.
You must consider that SEO is not something static , you have to review it regularly, adjust aspects of your site based on the analytics provided by WIX (very good) and Google Search Console and Google Analytics.
